BRAT STYLE

I really wish there was another name for this kind of bike....every time I say it I hear "Gangnam style" in my head.
Still a cool bike though...

Found this cool sketch of one of my favorite all time bikes. Chopper Dave knows  how to do it.

SWEET SIMPLICITY

There are so many wires inside a late model fairing that it's hard to believe chopped bikes can run on 15 wires and less. Sometimes technology doesn't simplify things.

WHY I DO IT...

Yesterday was my families thanksgiving supper, all the usual suspects were there. It is a good mix of friends and relatives, and always a good time.
A close family friend asked me why I do what I do.
Obviously I'm not wealthy from it, and I'm definitely not doing this to watch myself on T.V.
So why?
I do this because there is nothing as satisfying as building a machine, or even parts of a machine, and knowing that you accomplished it completely on your own. Modifying someone else's work is interesting, but not quite the same.
Even the smallest most simple parts can last a lifetime if they are built well.
Honestly, I don't know why anyone wouldn't do this?

CHOPPING A FRAME.

This is the frame from the big inch shovel chopper we are building over the winter. The frame comes with a clean mso and a good line for our needs.
However, we came to the conclusion that a bit of TLC was needed. The neck had lackluster welds with some serious undercutting, and the gusseting on the neck was screaming to be cut out and shaped. We also know we are running a high mounted king sporty tank, and with a frame this long we have tons of visible real estate on the backbone, that means the fatbob mounts needed to be sheared of as well.

THIS IS THE BASIC START POINT. THE GUSSET IS HUGE AND UGLY AND THE FATBOB MOUNTS WON'T BE USED.

THIS IS WHAT WE WILL BE REMOVING.

REINFORCED WELD.

STRAIGHT AS AN ARROW.

SMOOTHED OUT AND READY TO RUN!

TO CAFE RACE OR NOT TO CAFE RACE?

I was looking at the pics of Robs  xs650, and I remembered that last year I made a nice little aluminum headlight fairing for a sporty.
Thought it might be a good idea to post them...building a cafe racer has been heavily on my mind.

This was hammered out of .080" aluminum. Nothing Fancy, just solid clean lines.
